Request to change your email settings in accordance with the changes to be made in authentication/encryption method for sending/receiving email

Asahi Net, Inc.

Thank you for using Asahi Net.

This is to notify our members that we are making some changes in the authentication/encryption method of our email service as part of its security enhancement measures.
Please read the following and take any necessary procedures.

We will notify our members individually who may be using the applicable method.
For those who will not receive such notice from Asahi Net, but have an idea of using the applicable authentication/encryption method, please have a look at your email settings.

1. Background

In order for our members to use Asahi Net’s email service more safely, we will no longer support the POP before SMTP authentication method where its vulnerability is pointed out. TLS encryption methods (TLS 1.0 and 1.1) will be disabled for the same reason.

2. Applicable Methods

If you are using either (or both) of the following, please take your necessary procedures as soon as possible.

Applicable Method Details End of Support
Authentication method POP before SMTP End support February 28, 2022
Encryption method SMTP (SSL/TLS) Disabling TLS 1.0 and 1.1 July 31, 2022
POP (SSL/TLS) Disabling TLS 1.0 and 1.1 July 31, 2022

3. Required Procedures

Members who are using POP before SMTP

Please use SMTP instead of POP before SMTP for sending emails.
Please change your email settings by following the settings guide below.

Members who are using TLS 1.0 or 1.1

If TLS is used to send and receive emails, please check if your TLS version is 1.2 or above. If you are using an old version of mailer (or email client, email software, etc.), please update to the latest version and connect with TLS 1.2 or above.
