FAQ

General Questions about IPv6

A

This is the abbreviation of “Internet Protocol Version 6.” It is the next version of the Internet protocol after IPv4. As it has a vast amount of address space, IP addresses can be assigned to a lot more devices.

A

It is possible to use an Internet connection service of higher quality with IPv6 compared to the conventional use of Internet with IPv4.

The “IPv4 address exhaustion problem” is a current issue, however, IPv6 provides a vast number of addresses, which makes it possible to assign IP addresses to various devices. IPv6 is necessary for more convenient use of the Internet.

A

The IPv4 addresses to be assigned to devices such as PCs and servers will be exhausted due to the growth of the Internet.

For the development of the Internet, it is essential to introduce IPv6 with the large address space in addition to IPv4 which is currently mainly used.

Please refer to the following page for details:

A

Since it is difficult to switch the whole of the Internet to IPv6 at one time, we need to continue using IPv4 for the time being.

Asahi Net members can use IPv6 together with IPv4 for the time being.
