Mail Configuration for Apple MacOSX (10.10)

About this page

This page shows how to configure Mail for the first time. The Adjusting mail settings section shows how to confirm the settings you have made.

Setup

1. Open Mail.

2. Choose Add Account and then select Add Other Mail Account. Click Continue.

3. In the Add a Mail Account window, input as follows.

Full Name Your name
E.g. Taro Asahi
Email Address Enter your Asahi Net email address.
E.g. ab4t-ash@asahi-net.or.jp
Password Your Asahi Net password.
Enter in lower case (small) characters.

4. Click the Create button.

5. When the Account must be manually configured message appears, Click Next to setup the account manually.

6. In the Incoming Mail Server Info window, set the Account Type to POP, then input as follows.

Account Type POP
Mail Server pop.asahi-net.or.jp
User Name Your Asahi Net User ID
E.g. ab4t-ash
Enter in lower case (small) characters.
Password Your Asahi Net password
Enter in lower case (small) characters.

7. Click Next.

8. In the Outgoing Mail Server Info window, enter the following settings:

SMTP Mail Server mail.asahi-net.or.jp
User Name Your Asahi Net User ID
E.g. ab4t-ash
Enter in lower case (small) characters.
Password Your Asahi Net Password.
Enter in lower case (small) characters.

9. Click the Create button. The account will be created. You will need to continue as below and adjust the mail settings so that downloading of email and sending of email will work.

10. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.

11. Click the Accounts button then click on the Account Information tab and check your settings.

Account Type POP
Description Name for this Mail Account
E.g. Asahi Net
Email Address Enter your email address.
E.g. ab4t-ash@asahi-net.or.jp
Full Name Your name
E.g. Taro Asahi
Incoming Mail Server pop.asahi-net.or.jp
User Name Your Asahi Net User ID
E.g. ab4t-ash
Enter in lower case (small) characters.
Password Your Asahi Net password
Enter in lower case (small) characters.

12. Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down bar.

13. Choose Edit SMTP Server List.

14. In the window that appears confirm your settings (as listed below).

Description Asahi Net
Server Name mail.asahi-net.or.jp
mails.asahi-net.or.jp *
* Only use the mails.asahi-net.or.jp mail server if you are using our Virus Check Service.

15. Click on the Advanced tab, and make sure your settings are as listed below.

Port 465
Use SSL Check the box
Authentication MD5 Challenge-Response
User Name Your Asahi Net User ID
E.g. ab4t-ash
Enter in lower case (small) characters.
Password Your Asahi Net password
Enter in lower case (small) characters.

16. Click OK.

17. Click on the Advanced tab. In the window that appears, make sure your settings are as listed below.

Automatically detect and maintain account settings Check the box
Include when automatically checking for new messages Check the box
Remove copy from server after retrieving a message Arbitrary
Prompt me to skip messages over___KB Arbitrary
Port 995
Use SSL Check the box
Authentication APOP (Authenticated POP)

18. Close the Accounts screen. You may be prompted to save the changes. Click the Save button.

19. If your Mac is connected to the Internet, you should be able to send and receive email.
