Individual Homepage Service

In brief

Settings for the homepage space available to Individual members, including FTP settings, CGI scripts, etc.

Important notes about making your homepage

As an Asahi Net member, you may have some homepage space as part of our membership. We also have some notes about how your homepage files need to be constructed. Please confirm homepage space available to you, and read these notes before you start to make your homepage.

If the amount of homepage space used exceeds the base amount allocated to the Course and Plan you are using, an additional homepage space usage charge will be charged at 189 yen (180 yen base) per month per 5MB excess. Please visit the How to check homepage space usage section below for how to calculate your homepage space usage.

FTP settings


Basic Settings


Before you use FTP software or Web creation software to upload your homepage you will need to make several settings in that software so that your homepage is loaded to its correct location on our servers. The settings are listed below. Remember that if you are using a FreeAddress, you must replace word1 and word2 with the actual words you chose when you registered your FreeAddress.

Included CGI scripts

The following CGI scripts are included in this Individual Homepage Service: Access Counter, Form Decode and Bulletin Board. For security purposes we do not allow Individual members to create their own CGI scripts.

Access Counter
The Access Counter script allows a graphic image to be displayed on the homepage of how many times that homepage has been viewed.
Form Decode
From Decode allows you to collect information from visitors to your homepage, such as your creating a questionnaire for visitors to complete.
My Board
MyBoard is a bulletin board that you can display on your homepage. Other Asahi Net members are allowed to view the bulletin board and make comments to it.

How to check homepage space usage


How homepage space usage is calculated

On an arbitrary date between the 1st and 15th of every month, Asahi Net measures the amount of disk space used, and charges accordingly for additional homepage space usage. If your homepage usage exceeds the amount of homepage space allocated to the Asahi Net Course and Plan you are using, an additional homepage space usage charge will be made at a rate of 189 yen (180 yen base) per 5MB unit of excess.

In order for your homepage to function properly, each file is assigned 4 Kilobytes of space to be used for indexing, directories, etc. Therefore, the amount of space used to host your homepage is in fact larger than the combined size of all your files.

Note: 1 Megabyte is equal to 1,024 Kilobytes.
