


Windows 2000 RASPPPoE Configuration

How to configure RASPPPoE for Windows 2000
I. Before making the configuration, ensure that...
1. You are contracted with NTT to use their FLET'S service.
2. You are an ASAHI Net member.

3. You are using the correct ASAHI Net Course.

4. You are prepared for connection.
On the day of NTT opening their service, connect up all equipment provided by NTT
as instructed by NTT.
II. Configuration of RASPPPoE for Windows 2000.
1. Uninstall any other PPPoE programs you may have installed on your system, including old versions of RASPPPoE.
2. Download RASPPPoE from the www.carricksolutions.com site.

When you download RASPPPoE you will be able to specify the folder (directory) into which you want to have the RASPPPoE file save: save it into a folder that you can easily find later, such as your My Documents folder.
3. Unzip (extract) the zipped RASPPPoE file to a folder of your choice. If you do not have unzip software on your computer, you will not be able to unzip the RASPPPoE file and continue with this guide, so please download zip/unzip software from the Web, e.g. at CNET Shareware.com.
4. Right click on the My Network Places icon on your desktop, and choose Properties.
5. Right click on the Local Area Connection icon for your Ethernet card and choose Properties.
6. Below the Components checked box, click the Install button.
7. Select Protocol and click the Add button.
8. Click the Have Disk button. Select Browse and then choose the folder you unzipped (extracted) the RASPPPoE programs into. Once you have opened the folder, click on one of the INF files you see, e.g. raspppoe.inf
9. Click the OK button.
10. Click the OK button again.
11. In the Select Network Protocol window make sure "PPP over Ethernet Protocol" is highlighted and click the OK button.
12. A window may pop up several times stating - Digital Signature not found. Click on the Yes button (as many times as needed).
13. Close the Local Area Connection Properties window
14. Click on the Windows Start button, then choose Run. Type raspppoe in the Open box and click the OK button. If you see an error message then follow the instructions displayed to resolve it.
15. The RASPPPoE window will open. Ensure that your LAN card/LAN board is listed in the Query available PPP over Ethernet Services through Adapter box.
16. Click the Create a Dial-Up Connection for the selected Adapter button.
17. Click the Exit button. You should now see a short cut icon on your desk top named after the LAN card/ LAN board you are using, Connection through 3Com ....
18. Double click the Connection through... icon on your desktop.
19. Enter your ASAHI Net User Name and password.

20. Click the Save Password box.
21. Click the Dial button. Your computer should connect through to the Internet. Open you Web browser and make sure that you can see Web pages.

Web browsing slow? Can't see some Web pages?
Slow Web browsing and/or the inability to see some Web pages may be caused by the
Maximum Transfer Unit (MTU) setting of RASPPPoE. The default MTU setting is 1492,
however the setting most suitable for users of NTT's FLET'S network in 1454. You may
want to try changing the MTU value to 1454.
Changing the MTU value
If you are connected to the Internet with RASPPPoE, please disconnect before continuing.
1. On your desktop, go to Start.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Choose Network and Dial-up Connections.
4. Right-click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties.
5. On the General tab, make sure your ethernet card is chosen in the
Connect using box.
6. Highlight PPP over Ethernet Protocol and click the Properties button.
7. Under the General tab,
- click the Override Maximum Transfer Unit box,
- then enter 1454 in the Maximum Transfer Unit (MTU) box.
8. Click OK.
9. Click OK.
10. You may be asked to restart your computer - if so, please do so.
