Outlook Express 6 - How to add a mail account

1. Open Outlook Express.

2. Click on the Tools menu and select Accounts.

3. Click on the Mail tab.

4. Click on the Add button, select Mail...
An Internet Connection Wizard will start, as shown below. Enter information relevant to your ASAHI Net account.

5. Your Name. In the Display name box, enter your name in the way you want it to appear when people receive your email.
Click Next.

6. Internet E-mail Address. Enter your ASAHI Net email address in the E-mail address box.
Click Next.

A note about your ASAHI Net email address
The example below shows a default ASAHI Net email address based on your ASAHI Net User ID. ASAHI Net's MyMail service allows you to create your own email address. If you have not yet registered an ASAHI Net MyMail address, click here.

7. E-mail Server Names.
Make the following settings:
My incoming mail server is a POP3 server.
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: pop.asahi-net.or.jp
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.asahi-net.or.jp

Click Next.

8. Internet Mail Logon.
Make the following settings:
Account name: Your ASAHI Net User ID (eg. ab3c-defg).
Password: Your ASAHI Net Password.
Remember password: Check this if you don't want to type your password every time you check for new email.
Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Leave this blank.

Click Next.

9. Congratulations.
Click the Finish button.

10. The Internet Accounts window will appear showing the new account you have made. Make sure the account is highlighted and the click the Properties button.

11. Click the Servers tab.

  • Make sure that Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT checked.
  • Make sure that My server requires authentication IS checked.
  • Click the Settings button.

12. Check the Use the same settings as my incoming mail server box. Click the OK button.

Outgoing mail server

13. Click the Advanced tab. These settings are required:
Outgoing mail (SMTP): 465

  • Check the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.
  • Confirm that the number 465 is still in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box.

Incoming mail (POP3): 995

  • Check the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.
  • Confirm that the number 995 is still in the Incoming mail (SMTP) box.
  • Click the Apply button. Click the OK button.

14. The Internet Accounts window will appear. Click the Close button.

15. If you are connected to the Internet, click the Send/Recv button to download your ASAHI Net email.

16. If you were unable to receive your ASAHI Net email or send email, click here to check your settings.
