Netscape 7 Configuration (Windows)

I. Specifying the Home Page

1. Open Netscape Navigator 7.
There is no need to connect to the Internet to make the following setting changes. This process allows you to specify the Home Page that appears first each time you open Netscape.

2. From the Netscape menu, select Preferences.

3. Click the Navigator category.
Set the location to the address of the Web page you want to see first each time you launch Netscape - we suggest:
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/en/

4. Click OK to complete the setup for the Start page, and then follow the other instructions below.


II. Creating a Mail account

1. Open Netscape 7 (if you haven't done so already.)

2. From the Window menu choose Mail & Newsgroups.

3. After the Mail & Newsgroups window opens, choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the Edit menu.

a.) The first time you do this, a New Account Setup wizard may open. If so, go directly to step 4 (below), and use the wizard to help you set up your account.

b.) If the New Account Setup wizard does not automatically open, click on the Add Account button in the window on the left hand side.

4. Choose Email account. Click Next.

5. In the Your Name box, enter your name. In the Email Address box, enter your ASAHI Net email address. Click Next.

6. Click the POP button, then enter these settings:

Incoming Server: pop.asahi-net.or.jp
Outgoing Server: mail.asahi-net.or.jp

Click Next.

7. In the User Name box, enter your ASAHI Net User ID, e.g. ab3c-defg.

Click Next.

8. In the Account name box enter the name you want to call this account. This can be any name that helps you differentiate it from your other accounts, e.g. "ASAHI Net Mail Acct."

9. On the Congratulations page, verify the information you have entered is correct, then click Finish

10. You now find yourelf back in the Account Settings window. The configuration of Mail & Newsgroups is complete, so click OK.

III. Changing a Mail account

1. Open Netscape 7 (if you haven't done so already.)

2. From the Window menu, choose Mail & Newsgroups.

3. After the Mail & Newsgroups window opens, choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the Edit menu.

4. The Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window will open. In the category window, click on the name of the account. The following should be set:

Account Name: any name you choose
Your Name: your name
Email Address: your ASAHI Net email address
Compose messages in HTML format: do not check the box

5. Click on the Server Settings category. These settings are required:

Server Name: pop.asahi-net.or.jp
User Name: your ASAHI Net User ID
Port: 995

Use secure connection (SSL) : check the box
Leave message on server : do not check the box

6. Click on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) category. These settings are required:

Server Name: mail.asahi-net.or.jp
Port: 25
User name and password: check the box
User Name: your ASAHI Net User ID
User secure connection (SSL): choose the Never option.

7. Click the OK button.
