Mac OSX (v.10.4) Dial-Up Configuration

About this page

This is the connection configuration for ASAHI Net members using a Macintosh OSX (v.10.4) and wanting to connect to one of our domestic dial-up access points. Please log into your MacOSX as an Admin user in order to make these settings. The settings shown here are for our Prime Access Point.

Set up your connection

1. Do one of two things:
a. Click the System Preferences icon on your Dock.

b. Go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.

2. Find and click on the Network icon in the Internet & Network section. The Network panel will open.

3. Click the arrow on the Location box and choose New Location.
Enter a name for this connection (eg. Prime Access Point), then click O.K.

4. Click the arrow on the Show box and choose Internal Modem if that is the connection device you are using, or choose the name of the connection device you are using.

5. Click on the PPP tab and make these settings:

Service Provider ASAHI Net
Account Name User ID@atson.net   (eg. ab3c-defg@atson.net) *
Enter your Account Name in lower case (small) characters
Password Your ASAHI Net Password.
Enter your password in lower case (small) characters
Telephone Number Enter the ASAHI Net access point number to be dialed.
(eg. 0120-253531)
Alternate Number Optional
Save password Click this if you require your Mac to remember your password.

PPP Tab

6. Click on the TCP/IP tab and make these settings:

Configure IPv4 Choose Using PPP
DNS Servers 202.224.32.1
202.224.32.2
Search Domains asahi-net.or.jp

7. Click on the Proxies tab and make these settings:

Configure Proxies Manually.
FTP Proxy Unchecked.
Web Proxy Unchecked.
Secure Web Proxy Unchecked.
Streaming Proxy (RTSP) Unchecked.
SOCKS Proxy Unchecked.
Gopher Proxy Unchecked.
Automatic Proxy Configuration Unchecked.
Exclude simple hostnames Unchecked.
FTP Proxy Server Blank.
Bypass proxy settings Blank.
Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) Check.

Proxies

8. Click on the Modem tab and make these settings:

Modem Choose the name of the connection device you are using
(eg. Apple internal 56K Modem (v.90))
Enable error correction and
compression in modem
Check this.
Wait for dial tone before dialing Check this.
Dialing Set according to your telephone line type.
Sound On
Country Setting Click Change if you need to change this (see below).
Show modem status Check this

If you clicked on the Change button, the following Date & Time window will appear. Click on the area of the world that you are in, or click on the drop down box and choose the closest city in your area. Date & time should change automatically for you.

9. Click the Apply Now button to fix these settings in your Mac OSX.

10. Close the Network window.

You are now ready to connect your Mac to an ASAHI Net dial-up access point.


Make your connection

11. Click on the Phone icon in the Menu Bar. Choose Open Internet Connect.

If you do not see this icon in your Menu Bar, you can find it in your Applications folder.

12. Confirm that the telephone number and account name are correct.

Click the Connect button.

13. A connection should be established between your computer and the access point.

Open your browser, and start viewing Web pages.

If you computer is not making the connection and some error number or message appears, first check all your settings and try again. If the error persists, contact ASAHI Net with details of which access point you are connecting to, the operating system you are using, including the number and message of any error.

If the screens you see when attempting the above configuration are different from what is explained, please let us know what you see and what version of MacOSX you are using.

Disconnect

14. Open your Internet connection icon and click the Disconnect button.
