Outlook Express 5 - How to add a mail account and check the settings

1. Open Outlook Express.

2. Click on the Tools menu and select Accounts.

3. Click on the New tab.

4. An Account Setup Assistant will be launched. Enter information relevent to your ASAHI Net account.

5. Your Name.

In the Display name box, enter your name in the way you want it to appear when people receive your email.

Click forward.

6. Internet E-mail Address.

Enter your ASAHI Net email address in the E-mail address box.

Click forward.

7. E-mail Server Names.

Make the following settings:
My incoming mail server is a POP server.
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: pop.asahi-net.or.jp
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.asahi-net.or.jp

Click forward.

8. Internet Mail Logon.

Make the following settings:
Account ID: Your ASAHI Net User ID (eg. ab3c-defg).
Password: Your ASAHI Net Password.
Save password: Check this if you don't want to type your password every time you check email.

Click forward.

9. Congratulations.

In the Account name box, enter a name for the account.

Click the Finish button.

10. The Accounts window will appear. Make sure the account is highlighted and then click the Edit tab.

11. Click the Account Settings tab and confirm the settings.

• Account name: a name of your choice.
• Make sure the Include this account in my "Send & Receive All" schedule box is checked.
• Personal information:
  Name: your name.
  E-mail address: Your ASAHI Net email address.
• Receiving mail:
  Account ID: your ASAHI Net User ID (eg. ab3c-defg).
  POP server: pop.asahi-net.or.jp
  Save password: check the box and type your ASAHI Net password in the box.
• Sending mail:
  SMTP server: mail.asahi-net.or.jp

12. Under the Receiving mail section, click the Click here for advanced receiving options link.

Make the following settings:
This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL): check the box.
Enter 995 in the box. Do not check the Override default POP port box.
Always use secure password: check the box.
Click the little button on the top left hand side to close the window.

13. Under the Sending mail section, click the Click here for advanced sending options link.
Make the following settings:
SMTP service requries a secure connection (SSL): check the box.
Override default SMTP port: check the box.
Enter 465 in the white box.
SMTP Server requires authentication: check the box.
Click the radio button for Use the same settings as incoming mail server.
Click the little button on the top left hand side to close the window.

14. Click the OK button.

15. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.

16. In the Preferences window, click on the Compose tab.

• Messages:
  Mail Format: choose Plain Text.
  News Format: choose Plain Text.

Click the OK button.

17. If your computer is connected to the Internet, click the Send & Receive button to download your ASAHI Net email.

18. If you were unable to receive your ASAHI Net email or send email, please check your settings.

a. Click on the Tools menu and select Accounts.
b. Refer to step 10 above to check your settings.
