ASAHI Net au Hikari
About this page
This page is for ASAHI Net au Hikari users who want to confirm the settings they
need to
make an Internet connection.
A detailed setup guide is provided by KDDI (in Japanese) with their service and is
available in PDF format
by clicking here.
* Giga Type service users will use the Aterm BL190HW Home Gateway, however
the layout and the configuration will be the same as shown below for the Aterm
BL170HV.
The steps to making an Internet connection
|
Step 2 - Computer (Client Side) Configuration
To have your computer recognize it is connected to the Home Gateway (Aterm
BL170HV) you will
need to make sure the computer's network settings allow an IP address to be
obtained
automatically. Please refer to the following guides for assistance with making the
setting.

 |
|
Step 3 - Computer (Client Side) IP Address Confirmation
You will need to make sure your computer has been assigned the correct IP address.
Use the
instructions below to find that out. In a normal assignment of an IP address you
will find
an address listed for each of the IP Address (e.g. 192.168.0.2), Subnet Mask (e.g.
255.255.255.0) and Default Gateway (e.g. 192.168.0.1) fields.
If no IP address is listed, or the IP address is listed as 0.0.0.0 it means the IP
address
has not been assigned to the network adapter properly and therefore an Internet
connection
is not possible. If the IP address starts with 169 then this also means the IP
address has
not been assigned to the network adapter properly. In both cases please make sure
that all
cabling is properly and firmly connected and make sure that the network adapter is
enabled
and functioning.
Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7
Go to Start, select All Programs, Accessories, and then Command Prompt.
At the prompt, type in ipconfig, hit the Enter key on your keyboard. You will see the IP address displayed. When done, type Exit.
Windows 2000
Go to Start, select Programs, Accessories, and then Command Prompt.
At the prompt, type in ipconfig and hit the Enter key on
your keyboard. You will see the IP address displayed. When done, type Exit.
Windows ME / Windows 98
Go to Start, select Run.
At the prompt, type in winipcfg and click OK.
Select your
Ethernet Adapter from the pull-down menu. You will see the IP address displayed.
When done,
click OK.
Mac OS X
Go to the Apple menu, select System Preferences and then Network.
The IP address will be displayed on the TCP/IP tab.
Mac OS 8x-9x
Go to Apple (top left of screen), select Control
panel and
then TCP/IP. Your IP Address will be displayed.

Step 4 - Confirm The Connection Is Working
Please confirm that the Home Gateway's Internet lamp is on and
green. Open
a Web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) and make sure you can view Web pages.
What To Do If You Cannot Send Email
It is not possible to send email through Port 25 while connected to the au Hikari service.
In this case please refer to the following guides to change the Outgoing mail
server port
setting to either 587 (our submission port) or 465 (SSL port).
If using another Internet provider's Outgoing mail server please ask that company
if they
have a Submission port that you can use.
