What is the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point?
The All-Japan Access PIAFS Point is a dial-up access point that can be connected to from any area of Japan.
The telephone dial-up charge for making connections to the All-Japan Access Point is billed by your telephone carrier at their local-call rates.

PHS users will be able to make 64Kbps-capable connections with PIAFS2.0 and PIAFS2.1 capable PHS devices.

What is "PIAFS"? PIAFS stands for PHS Internet Access Forum Standard. This is
a standard data transfer technology, established in April 1997. ASAHI Net members can make use of our PIAFS access
point without the need to pay surcharges.
How can I connect to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point?
Before you attempt to connect, you do need to have the correct equipment.
- a 32K/64K capable PHS device
- a data card
- a computer that allows connection with a data card or mobile PHS device.
PHS dial-up charges will be billed by your PHS carrier. PHS-compatible equipment can be supplied by
NTT DoCoMo or DDI Pocket - please contact these companies for details.
These are the steps required to connect to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point.
1. Register for ASAHI Net's Expanded Services
Not needed if you joined ASAHI Net after March 2002.
No charge is made for registration, however registration is required before connection to the
All-Japan Access PIAFS Point is possible. Please register with the User ID you wish to connect to the
All-Japan PIAFS Access Point with.
An ASAHI Net User ID and password is required to register.
Individual members:
Use your ASAHI Net User ID (e.g. ab3c-defg) and ASAHI Net password.
Business service members:
Use a connection ID (first character "u" or "c") and the associated
password for that ID.

Enter your ASAHI Net User ID and password when prompted.
Follow the on-screen instructions to Register for expanded services.
Log out of the BBB by clicking ASAHI Net Top Page(Exit BBB).
2. Connect
These are the basic settings for the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point.

Notes
- The suffix @atson.net is required for connection to the service, but it is not be needed for ASAHI Net's BBB service, POP email, FTP, etc.
- Please read the Read this before using the access point section below, especially if your computer is unable to connect to the access point.

How can I check my connections to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point?
To check what connections have been made to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point and which have been made to ASAHI Net's other connection services, please use the link below to ASAHI Net's Web-based BBB service.
An ASAHI Net User ID and password is required.
Individual members:
Use your ASAHI Net User ID (e.g. ab3c-defg) and ASAHI Net password.
Business service members:
Use a connection ID (first character "u" or "c") and the associated
password for that ID.

After you have logged in, click on the "Detailed information of each PPP connection" button and
you will see a list of all connections made, and under the "Connection method" heading a description
of the type of connection made.
COMMON_NUMBER : All-Japan PIAFS Access Point.
Domestic PPP : ASAHI Net's local access points.
FLET'S ISDN : NTT's FLET'S ISDN service.
Overseas PPP : overseas access points.
Read this before using the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point

When configuring your computer to connect to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point, enter your ASAHI Net User Name and Password in lower case characters. If you use upper-case characters, the connection will fail.
2.
Dial-up telephone charges for connection to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point will be billed by your PHS carrier and not by ASAHI Net.

In general, proxy servers should not be used when connected to this access point. It may be possible to use other company's proxy servers, but that depends on the settings of those proxy servers.

Only ASAHI Net's SMTP server (mail.asahi-net.or.jp) can be used when connected to the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point.

The PIAFS 2.0 and PIAFS 2.1 protocols are supported. The P-p@c protocol is not supported.

Connections with PHS devices supplied by NTT DoCoMo and DDI Pocket are possible. Basically only PHS services that are capable of dialing "0035" numbers can be used for connecting the All-Japan PIAFS Access Point. The Astel service is not supported by this All-Japan PIAFS Access Point.
7.
Depending on the make and model of your PHS device, you may need to add communication commands to the access point number, for example 0035-054-100040##4. For details please refer to the documentation you received with your PHS device.
