Changing from B FLET'S to FLET'S Hikari Next or FLET'S Hikari Light

It is possible for four types of NTT fiber-optic line to be available with a FTTH with FLET'S Home Course application; B FLET'S New Family, B FLET'S Hyper Family, FLET'S Hikari Light and FLET'S Hikari Next. The FTTH with FLET'S Course monthly charge is the same regardless of the type of NTT fiber-optic line, as are the optional services available, however a change from one type of line to another will incur a construction charge and, depending on the construction work involved additional charges may also be incurred.

It is not possible to use the Internet while construction work is in progress for a change from a B FLET'S line to a FLET'S Hikari Next line or FLET'S Hikari Light line. Furthmore it may be possible for some services to be unavailable after such a change, for an exchange of NTT connection device (modem/router) to be required, for the reconfiguration of connection settings to be required, etc.

Please refer to the following NTT Web pages (Japanese) for confirmation of NTT's charges, or contact NTT directly.

FTTH with FLET'S campaign conditions

Discounted NTT East standard construction

NTT East will discount their standard construction charge for those who apply for a new fiber-optic line and use that fiber-optic line for a 24-month period. If a customer cancels the NTT East fiber-optic line within the 24 month period, NTT East will charge the customer 8,400 yen (incl. tax). For example, a member starting to use the NTT East fiber-optic line on December 3rd 2012 will have to keep the fiber-optic line until December 3rd, 2014 to avoid being charged the penalty charge. Please contact NTT East for details.

Discounted NTT West standard construction

NTT West will discount their standard construction charge for those who apply for a new fiber-optic line (FLET'S Hikari Next, FLET'S Hikari Premium, B FLET'S) and use that fiber-optic line for a minimum 24 month period. If a customer cancels the NTT West fiber-optic line within the 24 month period, NTT West will charge the customer the full construction charge. Please contact NTT West for details.

ASAHI Net minimum usage period

ASAHI Net's minimum usage period for FTTH with FLET'S Courses is 12 months. Should the Course be cancelled within 12 months a penalty charge of 2,100 yen will be billed by ASAHI Net.

A note about FTTH

FTTH stands for "Fiber To The Home" and is a high-speed Internet connection provided by a fiber-optic network directly to the user's home. We are using the term "FTTH" to cover all fiber-optic connection services offered by ASAHI Net and our partners NTT East, NTT West and KDDI. These services also include Mansion-type fiber-optic services where the fiber-optic cable is supplied to the building the user lives in but may not extend directly into the user's home in that building; instead LAN cabling or telephone cabling inside the building may be used to supply the service into the user's home.

FTTH is a "best-effort" service, therefore factors including line conditions and Internet congestion will cause the speed to be lower: there is no guarantee for the actual speeds that will be achieved through use of this service.

Special notes for English speakers

Here is a list of points that should be considered by English speakers and/or people using computers with English-only operating systems.

  • Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7/MacOSX: If you have an English Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or MacOSX computer, you are in luck because the software needed (PPPoE) is pre-installed. Visit our Configuration Guide to find the settings for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and MacOSX PPPoE. Please do not install NTT's Japanese software from their CD.

  • Routers: If NTT has supplied you with a VoIP router, you may configure it to make the Internet connection instead of using PPPoE in your computer. Visit our Configuration Guide for how to configure the NTT VoIP router step by step, in English, with pictures. The documentation NTT supply with their routers is only available in Japanese.

  • There is no English-language documentation provided by NTT for this service.

  • NTT's phone call may be in Japanese if NTT do not have sufficient English speaking staff available.

Automatic Configuration service

The FTTH with FLET'S Automatic Configuration Service is available to those FTTH with FLET'S Home and Mansion Course users in the NTT East area who want their Internet connection configuration and other settings made automatically through the Internet. It is only available to those whose computer has a Japanese-language operating system. There is no English-language documentation or software provided by NTT for this service.
