ASAHI Net's High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course is compatible with both NTT docomo's Xi service and FOMA High-Speed service. Xi™ (read “Crossy”) is NTT docomo's next-generation LTE mobile service. The service offers maximum possible downloads of up to 37.5Mbps and upload speeds of up to 12.5Mbps. The service will be available at launch in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka areas, with other major cities and regions to be added thereafter. >> Service area NTT docomo's FOMA High-Speed service offers download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384kbps (upload speeds of up to 5.7Mbps are possible in some parts of Tokyo). NTT docomo offer their FOMA High-Speed service throughout Japan. ASAHI Net members using ASAHI Net's High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course will be able to make Internet connections with either the Xi™ service or the FOMA High-Speed service. Campaign Apply for the High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course Basic Plan and the initial charge will not be charged and the monthly charge not charged for a maximum 3 months. Apply for the High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course Fixed IP Address Plan and the initial charge will not be charged and the monthly charge not charged in the opening month and discounted to 840 yen in the following 2 months.

Service and charges

As well as ASAHI Net's service charges, you will also be billed by NTT docomo for their data communication charges.
If using the FOMA data communication/fixed data plan standard volume service, the monthly charge is between 1,000 yen and 5,985 yen.
If using the Xi data communication/Xi data plan 2 year service, the monthly charge is between 1,000 yen and 6,510 yen (if up to 5GB is used).

These are best-effort services. Factors including the communication environment and congestion will cause the actual speed to be lower than is technically possible.
The Xi service offers maximum possible downloads of up to 37.5Mbps and upload speeds of up to 12.5Mbps.
The FOMA High-Speed service offers maximum possible downloads of up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384kbps (upload speeds of up to 5.7Mbps are possible in some parts of Tokyo). For a comparison of the Xi and FOMA High-Speed services, visit this Web page:

Flat-rate FOMA data communication is only possible with FOMA packet communication when using a compatible FOMA flat-rate connection service and NTT docomo's Connection Manager software. For more information, please visit this NTT docomo Web page:

Connection and essential equipment

Use of NTT docomo's Connection Manager software is essential when using the FOMA High-Speed Flat-Rate Course or FOMA High-Speed Flat-Rate Option.
To prevent connections to the FOMA High-Speed service from being left on accidentally, should there be a connection period of 10 minutes without data communication the connection will be automatically cut.
When contracted with NTT docomo for a flat-rate data plan, it is not possible to use i-mode, voice communication or digital communication.

Users of the High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course will need to enter into a Xi or FOMA High-Speed contract with NTT docomo and use a compatible xi or FOMA High-Speed communication device or computer in order to connect to the Internet. NTT docomo's compatible communication devices will only function on Japanese-language operating systems. NTT's docomo's software (Connection Manager) supplied on a CD with NTT's communication devices will need to be installed into the computer; only a Japanese-language version is supplied by NTT docomo.

If you are contracted with NTT docomo for a service that is not flat rate and try to get connected with ASAHI Net's High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course, connection will fail and the error message RS-00-00678 will be displayed.
By applying for a non-flat rate service with NTT docomo and at the same time applying for their mopera u service, it is possible reduce NTT docomo's charge for metered connections. However, if you would like to use NTT docomo's FOMA Flat-Rate service, any other non-flat rate services or international roaming service, you will need to cancel the flat rate service.
Also, even if you are contracted with NTT docomo for a Flat-Rate service, you will be billed communication charges for using the a NTT docomo metered service or international roaming service as these services are not included in NTT docomo's Flat-Rate service.
