A mobile service using Xi & Foma line provided by NTT docomo

Service Overview

High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) is a service which could be used if you are subscribed to NTT docomo's FOMA data communication or Xi data communication, and using the respective data communication device.
To start using the service, you need to subscribe to NTT docomo.

  • Xi (Crossy) Data Communication
    • Max 112.5 Mbps/37.5 Mbps (download/upload).*1
    • 100% in population coverage rate of 12 major cities in Japan.*2
    • For areas not covered by Xi service, FOMA data communication, which covers 100% of the population nationwide, is also available.※3
  • FOMA Data Communication
    • Max 14 Mbps/5.7 Mbps (download/upload).*4
    • Covers 100% of the population nationwide.*3
    • Fixed IP address available.

The communication speeds shown for this service are the maximum technically possible, and they are not the speeds that you will actually experience when using the service. The service is a "best effort" service and therefore actual speeds are dependent on many factors including the communication environment, network congestion, the device in use at the time, etc.
  2. *2Population coverage rate of 12 major cities in Japan is calculated based on whether communication is possible or not at places where municipal offices of 12 major cities and metropolitan area are located.
  3. *3Nationwide population coverage rate is calculated based on whether communication is possible or not at places where municipal offices/branches of each cities/wards/villages are located.

Procedures to take at NTT docomo and supported devices

In order to use Xi or FOMA, you need to subscribe to an NTT docomo service and use a supported device. See NTT docomo's website for more details.

Note: New applications for Xi/FOMA are no longer accepted.

NTT docomo charges

You are asked to pay NTT docomo separately for the communication charges.

  • Xi data communication: Xi Data Plan Ninen: monthly charge between 1,048 yen and 6,820 yen (using less than 7 GB).
  • FOMA data communication, Fixed Data Plan Standard Value (when Fixed Data Standard Discount is being applied): monthly charge between 1,048 yen and 6,270 yen.
  • *Both pages are only in Japanese.

Precautions

  • Data communication speed for: Xi is max 112.5 Mbps/37.5 Mbps (download/upload); FOMA is max 14 Mbps/5.7 Mbps (download/upload). These speeds are their "best effort" (max value of standards) and therefore actual speeds may change depending on network congestion, the device in use at the time, etc. For more details, please refer to NTT docomo's webpages.
  • Fixed charge communication is only limited to domestic FOMA packet connecting to a fixed charge connection service which supports FOMA by using the docomo Connection Manger (a connection software for fixed charge data plan: new downloads are unavailable). Please note that there are unavailable communications with fixed charge data plan. For more details, please refer to NTT docomo's website.

    Please be aware and be careful that if you are using a pay-as-you-go plan, an expensive packet communication fee may be charged depending on how you use the service.

  • In order for you to use the High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course and optional services, a connection through docomo Connection Manager is required.
    When using High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA) Course and optional services, connection will be disconnected automatically when no communication is made for a consecutive 10 minutes in order to prevent continuous running (due to forgetting to disconnect, etc.)
    If you are using the Fixed Data Plan, i-mode, voice calls, and digital communication are unavailable.
    Please check other precautions regarding the Fixed Data Plan which are shown in NTT docomo's website.

    NTT docomo | Fixed Charge Data Communications | Precautions (only in Japanese)

  • If you are using NTT docomo's Setsuzokusaki Gentei Service (limited connection service) and try connecting with FOMA Fixed Charge Data Plan course, an error status RS-00-00678 will show up and connection will not be established.
    The Setsuzokusaki Gentei Service is a service to prevent the charging of pay-as-you-go communications by applying also for mopera U's U Fixed Charge Data Plan (provided by NTT docomo), and it cannot be used by providers other than mopera U. If you wish to continue using the High-Speed Mobile (Xi & FOMA), you need to cancel this Setsuzokusaki Gentei Service. Also, please be aware that even if you are using NTT docomo's Fixed Data Plan, if you use any other pay-as-you-go data communication services or international roaming services, these will not be subject to fixed data and respective charges will be billed by NTT docomo.
  • In the month you changed or cancelled course, a regular monthly charge and any additional charges depending on your usage will be billed.
