IP-Phone-F: Important Notes

  • The IP-Phone-F service is offered in accordance with the IP-Phone-F usage agreement.

    IP-Phone-F usage agreement (Japanese)

  • To apply for the IP-Phone-F service, you must be using ASAHI Net's FLET'S ADSL Course or B FLET'S Course.
  • You cannot call numbers like 110, 118, and 119 with the IP-Phone-F service. To call numbers like this with a Type 2 ADSL line or the B FLET'S service fiber-optic service, you need a separate telephone line.
  • The IP-Phone-F service is a "best effort" service. Recommended transmission bandwidth (throughput) for this IP-Phone-F service is 128kbps or greater, or a link-up speed of 300kbps or greater. It is possible for communication quality to be affected by service usage conditions and other factors. Furthermore, as voice communication is taking place through the Internet it is not possible to completely guarantee the security of calls.
  • You must be aware that sometimes it does not allow you to call IP-Phone users with IP-Phone service even if using the VoIP equipment from NTT.

Switching from IP-Phone-C to IP-Phone-F

It is not possible to apply with the same ASAHI Net User ID for both the IP-Phone-F service and the IP-Phone-C service. If wanting to switch from the IP-Phone-C service to the IP-Phone-F service, please remember to first cancel the IP-Phone-C service, and then apply for the IP-Phone-F service.

Making calls with this service

  • Please dial the telephone area code first if you are calling a regular telephone number.
  • You can force a call to be made on the telephone line by placing "0000" in front of the telephone number to be dialed.
  • If the IP-Phone service is unavailable due to network problems etc., you can make a call via the telephone line by placing "0000" in front of the telephone number to be dialed.

By setting your telephone area code into the VoIP equipment, you can dial telephone numbers without first dialing the area code.

To call via the telephone line, the line must be connected to the VoIP equipment.

In cases where your telephone line (and your telephone company's telephone network) is used instead of the IP-Phone service, you will be billed by your telephone company for use of their lines.

When listening to a recorded voice guide, sometimes it is necessary to push buttons in response to questions asked. This function may not work with the IP-Phone-F service, so instead of making the call with the IP-Phone-F service please make it through the telephone line.

Using ACR (LCR) functionality

Disable the ACR(LCR) setting in your telephone equipment. ACR (Automatic Carrier Routing) is a function that automatically selects the telephone company to be used for the call. ACR is also known as LCR (Least Cost Routing). If this setting is in place, it may force your calls through the telephone line instead of the Internet.

Display of the IP-Phone telephone number

  • It is possible to make a setting in the VoIP equipment to control the display of the 050 IP-Phone number. If you prefix the number with 186 (display number) or 184 (don't display number) then this will control the display of the 050 IP-Phone number, regardless of the VoIP equipment setting.
  • If you prefix the number with 186 (display number), your call will be made via the telephone line. * The phone number of your telephone line will be displayed. The telephone line must be correctly connected to the VoIP equipment to make a call.
  • If your telephone comes with number display functionality, the telephone may automatically add "186" and the call will be made from the fixed telephone line. Please turn off the number display function.

* It is important that the version of firmware being used by the VoIP equipment supports the display of 050 IP-Phone numbers. Detailed information about firmware versions for NTT's VoIP equipment can be found on these (Japanese-language) NTT Web pages:
