FAQs

  • What is IPv6?

IPv6 stands for Internet Protocol version 6. It is the next generation Internet protocol following the IPv4, which is currently the standard protocol. As it has a vast address space, IP addresses can be assigned to substantial number of devices.

  • What is the advantage of using IPv6?

Using IPv6 along with the conventional IPv4 will make Internet connection service higher in quality.

The explosive growth of Internet users and devices is resulting in shortage of IPv4 addresses, known as IPv4 address exhaustion. IPv6 provides greater address availability, which allows assigning of IP addresses to more devices. IPv6 has become inevitable for the growth of internet.

  • Would IPv6 possibly improve the communication speed?

Since the speed generally vary by multiple factors such as situations at communicating counterparts, surrounding conditions and traffic status, we cannot answer it only with the use of IPv6. But since the IPv6 network has a relatively wider capacity than IPv4, there is a possibility that the speed may improve in case of slowdowns due to IPv4 traffic congestion.

  • Where can I find my NTT customer ID, which is required for the registration of IPv6 Connection Feature?

You can find your NTT customer ID (Written as お客さまID in Japanese. It starts with either CAF followed by ten digits, or COP followed by eight digits) on the contract document you received from NTT when you signed-up with them. If you are an Asahi Net docomo Hikari user, please refer to the relevant document issued from NTT docomo. Please refer to Steps to start Using IPv6 - STEP 1. Check your NTT customer ID.

  • I am using Asahi Net’s Course that does not support IPv6 Connection Feature. What should I do if I want to use the IPv6 Connection Feature?

You can use IPv6 Connection Feature by changing your Course to that supports IPv6 Connection Feature.

  • How can I check whether IPv6 Connection Feature is ready to use or not? Where can I check my status?

You can check the availability status of IPv6 Connection Feature in MyPage.
Please login to the page below to check the Availability Status of IPv6. If Ready to Use is indicated, IPv6 Connection Feature can be used.

  • I received an email message from Asahi Net notifying "registration was not completed." What should I do?

We send email notices to those whose registration for IPv6 Connection Feature was not completed. Please kindly refer to Using IPv6 Connection Feature and follow the instruction.

  • Do I need any devices to use IPv6?

Hikari Denwa router supplied from NTT East or NTT West can be used as is.

If you are using an off-the-shelf router, please refer to the user’s guide of the router to check whether it supports IPv6 feature.

  • I am currently using an application that requires port forwarding configuration for IPv4. Will I not be able to configure port forwarding if I apply for IPoE service?

You will be able to continue using port forwarding configuration even after you apply for the IPoE service. Please note that there is an exception on outbound port 25, which cannot be used to prevent spams. For details, please refer to our Members Support page on Outbound Port 25 Blocking (OP25B.)

Notes about implementation of Outbound Port 25 Blockingarrow

As part of our efforts to improve security of our Internet service, Asahi Net has implemented Outbound Port 25 Blocking (OP25B), which blocks the flow of unsolicited bulk emails (spams.)

All Asahi Net users connecting to internet with IPv6 are subject to OP25B regardless of which Course you are using. For details, please refer to Outbound Port 25 Blocking page.

We ask your kind understanding on the implementation of OP25B that will lead to improved security.
