In brief

In general, when you switch to a different speed of ADSL service you will be supplied with a replacement ADSL modem that is suitable for the speed of ADSL service you are switching to. Depending on the ADSL Course you are using you will either be able to rent or purchase the ADSL modem.

For more information, please refer to the page below for the ADSL Course you are using.

>> ADSL eAccess Course (50M)
>> Lite ADSL eAccess Course (1M)
>> Discount ADSL eAccess Course (12M)
>> Neo-Discount ADSL (12M) Course
>> Neo-Discount ADSL (50M) Course

>> ADSL Tokai Course (47M)
>> Lite ADSL Tokai Course (1M)

Charges

In general, both ASAHI Net switching charges and NTT construction charges will apply.

How to apply for a switch in speed

Please visit the Speed Switch page for the ADSL Course you are using.

>> ADSL Tokai Courses

Important notes

Please use the Speed Switch page

Use the switching pages above to switch between different speeds of service for the same line provider. For example, from the Neo-Discount ADSL 12M Course to the Neo-Discount ADSL 50M Course (both provided by eAccess).

If you simply cancel your ADSL service, e.g. Neo-Discount ADSL 12M Course, and then re-apply for the ADSL service, e.g. Neo-Discount ADSL 50M Course without using the switching application form, the following problems may arise:

  • The waiting period for opening of the new ADSL service may be two weeks or longer, i.e. you may be without Internet access for a long period of time.
  • There is a possibility that the new ADSL service is not possible even though you are presently using a a slower ADSL service through the same ADSL provider. Various reasons, including the distance between your home and NTT's central office, can contribute to this.
  • You may miss out on the benefits of any switching campaigns that are available: please check the switching pages listed above for details.

Increase of speed cannot be guaranteed

If requesting to switch to a potentially faster ADSL service, please be aware that there is no guarantee of the speeds that will result from the switch. Speed is determined by factors outside our control such as the distance between your home and NTT's central office, the quality of the telephone line between your home and NTT's central office, etc. It will not be possible to refund ASAHI Net or NTT switching charges should speeds not increase.

Switching between different ADSL Courses

When requesting a switch from the ADSL service of one ADSL provider (e.g. ADSL ACCA Course 50M) to that of another provider (e.g. Neo-Discount ADSL 12M Course) the following problems may arise:

  • It may not be possible for NTT to handle a new application for an ADSL service where the line is already being used for an ADSL service provided by a different ADSL provider. Before applying for the new ADSL service, it may be necessary to first cancel the ADSL service currently under use. However, in doing so, there is a strong possibility that you will be without ADSL service for more than two weeks, i.e. the period between the closing of one ADSL service and the opening of the other.
  • It may not be possible to switch to the desired ADSL service, even though you are presently using an ADSL service. Reasons include impaired ADSL signal due to the distance between your home and NTT's central office, etc. In cases like this, in order to change back to the original ADSL service, NTT may need to engage in re-construction, resulting in further NTT and ASAHI Net charges.
  • Before you apply to switch service, please refer to the ASAHI Net Web page of the ADSL service you wish to switch to for details of the modem options available.

The above particularly applies to users of NTT's FLET'S ADSL service who are hoping to change to another ADSL provider's ADSL service: your understanding is appreciated.
